Lest I end up being made fun of on this website: http://1post1der.blogspot.com/. I'm going to make a concerted effort to start writing again. Starting....now.
Ok, tomorrow. See you then.

When Black Friday comes...
The National Retail Federation is saying that it expects the lowest increase in holiday sales since 2002. As a result, many retailers have started their Christmas season early. In the past few years Black Friday has expanded earlier and earlier. Add in the economic unrest of the last few months and here we are: the sales have started already.
This is a great time to stock up without having to go digging through racks at the discounter. Here are some online deals that I've found:
Macy's right now is discounting their coats up to 50%, and shoes and boots are buy 1 get one 50% off. Belk has luggage for 50% off and men's pants for 40% off.
Some specialty stores have deep discounts as well; Banana Republic has just taken new reductions at 40% off, plus through October 31, enter the code HOTJOBS at checkout and take an additional 20% off if your order is over $100. BR is one of those stores with great classic yet hip pieces so take advantage! These are items that will last forever style-wise.
Ann Taylor, a favorite of my sis, is offering $50 off your order of $100 when you enter the code 91900015 at checkout through November 1.
If you have kids, Old Navy has baby clothes from .59cents for socks to $7.99 cargo pants. Enter the code JUST4YOU at checkout for free shipping on orders over $100 (that's a whole lotta onesies!)
As we get closer to Black Friday expect more deals. I'll do my best to keep them posted here for you. In the meantime I'm almost out of Laura Mercier blush - I'm off to Target to find a replacement!

If you must...
So if you're not quite ready to give up the labels or the thought of wearing Target clothing makes you itchy (though it shouldn't), there are some great ways to find designer labels at lower prices. I've found that for mid-level designer (ie not Valentino, Prada, or MiuMiu) Filene's Basement and TJ Maxx have the best selections. Filene's has their Vault Event every so often which includes those higher end labels mentioned above. On a day to day basis, they have a great selection of premium denim including J Brand, Citizens of Humanity, and James. Certain TJ Maxx locations have their special Runway Styles section. Both places typically have a good selection of Theory and Elie Tahari, though I have a bone to pick with Theory regarding their quality (more on that later).
No doubt you have heard of the new Private Sale websites such as Gilt, Hautelook, Ideeli, and RueLaLa. These sites are wonderful and run the gamut from funky designers to classic couture at up to 70% off. They are by invitation only, so if you're not a member email me and I'll get you hooked up!

Carried Away
I admit it, I bought in to the retail high of the last two years. I was finally part of a DINK (dual income no kids) family, had a secure job, and little to no credit card debt. I was able to buy $200 jeans and makeup at Saks and I rationalized the added expense.
I also admit that a lot of my image was just that: image. The thrill of tricking someone into thinking I had spent loads of money on an outfit only to admit that yes, it was from Target provided a greater high than actually spending $400 on an outfit.
Fast forward to the present day: we are now suddenly a SINK.
My self appointed new job as of today is to help replace all those expensive things we thought we couldn't live without. Using my research skills and past style sneakiness I'll be giving suggestions on how to reduce your spending while still looking fabulous.
I'll even search for you if you have a request - I've got the free time for a while!
